Six members of Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church make weekly visits to the local nursing home. They began these visits last summer as part of their outreach program. By October, they recognized a real need for additional seating as more and more residents attended their afternoon activity.
Ebenezer began the fundraising process last November. The expectation was to bring awareness of outreach possibilities and inspire further outreach programs no only for their church, but other local community organizations and churches to provide much needed activities for those in nursing homes. Raising funds to purchase new furniture was secondary, but they believed in their hearts that with God all things were possible.
The donation of furniture was achievable thanks to generous financial donations from those who also recognized the need along with several small fundraisers.
While the church received funds of approximately $6,500, Thrivent Financial Services, a financial organization affiliated with Lutheran churches provided matching funds in the amount of $1 for every $2 raised bringing the total close to $10,000. In total, 15 tables and 42 chairs were purchased.
Called to serve, Ebenezer "adopted" Bailey Park, with a current census of 43 residents and located at 2400 MItchell Street in Humboldt, as a part of their outreach program in May of 2006.
